Base Layer refers to the first layer of Clothing which serves as your body''s defense against cold, heat, moisture, etc. Base Layers are layers of Clothing made from natural (except co tton) or synthetic fabrics. A good Base Layer wick moisture away from skin, keeping the biody warm or coll depending on the weather. It is designed to remain dry by either wicking, repelling, or allowing moisture to pass through to another absorbent layer.
Always avoid wearing cotton as a base layer as it traps moisture close to your skin, doesn"t dry quickly and keeps you cold. Examples of good base layers are fleece, wool, polypropelene and neoprene.
Base Layer is typically considered an underwear layer and common brands that are available are: Capilene, CoolMax, Thermastat, Thermax, Transport EC2, Lifa, MCS.
Base Layer is also spelled Baselayer with Baselayers or Base layers as its plural form.
