Shirtwaist Dress refers to a Tailored dress, usually buttoned down from neck to the Waist with either a straight or full shirt, usually with a collar, defined waistline, and usually worn with a belt. This style of dress was common in the 1940's-1960's.

In America in the 1900's, the Shirtwaist Dress was usually made of linen and is decorated with machine-stitched embroidery. The style of stand-up collar was popular and a belt with a buckle made of cloth or leather was usually worn with a Shirtwaist Dress.
