- Bowler (Hat) : Bowler which is also called a Derby Hat refers to a stiff oval hat with a rolled brim, made popular by the Earl of Derby in England in the 19th century. The Bowler Hat was originally create d in England in 1849 which was intended as protective gear for men on horseback from low-hanging branches. Early versions could withstand substantial force, and the rounded top kept branches from catching. Generally, the Bowler is still made in an oval shape, with a small curled brim, and simple ribbon.
