Tam O'Shanter refers to the Scottish Bonnet with close-fitting headband, often made of wool and is usually trimmed with a pompon on Top of the crown. It was named after the epic poem

written by Robert Burns entitled "Tam O'Shanter - the poems main character.

Traditionally, Tam O'Shanter was used in Scotland in the tartan (plaid) patterns that once identified which district a man lived in and which clan he belonged to. There was also a time when it was called Blue Bonnet because originally they are made in blue when chemical dyes were still unavailable.
