Jumpsuit refers to a one-piece garment that combines a shirt and trousers and usually closes up the front.. Jumpsuits are originally worn by aviators and parachute troopers during World War I and World War II. It also became popular during the 1960's especially for use while skiing.
In the 1960's, however, the Jumpsuit became a high quality piece and ready to wear to any special occasion. The jumpsuits became dressy and started to be spotted in high fashion, particularly in the 70's and 80's and again in 2008 and 2009 when famous fashion designers came out with beautiful and dressy jumpsuits, among them were Stella McCartney for Spring/Summer 2008, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen.
Description
Jumpsuits also come nowadays in variety of style: slim and sleek, with a full yet tapered leg, or the harem leg trend, wide leg, strapless, asymetrical or one-shoulder, etc. Jumpsuits, like the LBD can be dressed up or down with accessories, like in Lily Allen's "Not Fair" video where she dressed her jumpsuit with layered necklaces and bracelets.
Jumpsuits have been used many times as stage costumes in stage productions and by various singers and bands, including, Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, The Who, Freddie Mercury, and Spice Girls have all performed in flamboyantly-designed jumpsuit-like garments.
The most famous Jumpsuit of all times is the Elvis Presley most expensive White Jumpsuit with peacock design which is embellished with jewels and studs. It was said Elvis paid $10,000 to have it made by Bill Belew, the man who created his stage costumes from 1969 to 1977. Elvis first wore the Peacock jumpsuit on May 11, 1974 and his other concerts around the United States. The Peacock Jumpsuit has also been featured on the cover of his albums, both an official RCA release and bootlegs.
Aside from Elvis Peacock Jumpsuit, a few of our favorite examples include Stella McCartney (floral prints, spaghetti straps), Givenchy (multiple pockets, slightly cropped length), and Prada (silky plaid). Many celebrities were spotted wearing assorted jumpsuit styles as well. Pixie Geldof wore a short mustard playsuit with black tights for the launch of an H&M flagship store in London, while Erin Wasson wore Prada's s during r a party in Los Angeles. Elettra Wiedemann and Helena Christensen both selected ultra long, wide-leg jumpsuits for parties they attended, Kim Kadarshian and Heide Montag also joined by bandwagon
Other pieces in the market are: Wang's Silk Racerback Playsuit, Paul & Joe Prommier Jumpsuit with snake print fabric, Margo London's Felix Playsuit , and the zipper details on the ankles of the Farahbella Meme Jumpsuit.
Visit topshop, net-a-porter and the internet where you can purchase a jumpsuit, however, summer 2009 is soon over, perhaps you can still wear one next summer.
My favorite! Stella McCartney Floral Jumpsuit worn by Rihanna and Angie Harmon and the retro chic white jumpsuit of Lily Allen in her new video "Not Fair" is also very elegant with layered necklaces and gold pumps.
Summary
A jumpsuit is a one-piece garment that combines a top and bottom in one sleek Silhouette. It is available in different styles ranging from casual to formal, making it a versatile staple in any Wardrobe. Jumpsuits can be dressed up with Heels and statement Jewelry for a night out, or dressed down with sneakers for a more relaxed look. They are perfect for making a fashion statement while still being comfortable and easy to wear.
